The bed bug enjoys warm spaces and often chooses bedding/sleeping areas and crevices of mattresses and box springs as its habitat, which is where their name comes from. Bed bugs are extremely small at only 1/4 in. (6 mm), but can infest homes quickly and can live up to an entire year off one single feeding of human/animal blood.
There are many ways bed bugs can travel to your residence including old furniture, adjacent community living like apartments or townhomes, and even guests. While these insects do not transmit any diseases to their hosts, their bites can cause swelling, skin rashes, psychologic effects, and allergic symptoms. Due to their small size and nocturnal nature, noticing you have a bed bug infestation may be difficult at first. Fortunately, they stick together once a habitat is established. Be sure to contact Miller Pest & Termite as soon as you feel there is an issue for a free bed bug inspection.
